Some 200 VIP guests turned up to pay tribute to IWC Schaffhausen on the opening night of its Pilot’s Watches Exhibition in Malaysia. This week-long exhibition transformed Pavilion KL’s Centre Court into a tasteful showcase of IWC’s latest Pilot’s Watches, complete with a life-sized replica of the Silver Spitfire aircraft.
Hannes Pantli, spokesman and member of IWC Schaffhausen’s board of directors, graced the event alongside Malaysian A-listers Awal Ashaari, Scha Alyahya and Alif Satar. Guests were treated to craft cocktails inspired by the Silver Spitfire’s stopover cities, as well as canapes by Westin Kuala Lumpur. Five-piece band Vanessa S.Y.T. kept the party going with familiar tunes all night.
The Swiss watchmaker’s classic aviation pieces set the stage for its latest Pilot’s Watches. These were launched at the very same event, making this a triple celebration for IWC Schaffhausen. This was because its new boutique had also opened just around the corner, on the second floor of Pavilion KL.
“Over 80 years ago, IWC brought the dream of flying to life with the ‘Special Watch for Pilots’, which was designed by two aviator brothers who knew the exact requirements of a timepiece for the cockpit. We are honoured to showcase, for the very first time in Malaysia, the precision engineering and ongoing innovation that have kept our Pilot’s Watches at the forefront of watchmaking for so many decades,” said Stanislas Rambaud, managing director for IWC Southeast Asia.
Lest we forget, the story of Silver Spitfire is also shaping up to be one for the history books. This August, two British pilots will fly a restored Spitfire on the world’s longest flight: 43,000 kilometres over 30 countries, in just four months.
Back at the Malaysian exhibition, Spitfire and Top Gun were easily the two models that stole the show. The former is 100% manufactured by IWC, while the latter is fashioned out of Ceratanium and sand-coloured ceramic.
