The Aston Martin V12 Speedster takes design inspiration from three open-cockpit cars.
Last month, Aston Martin teased its upcoming V12 Speedster, and now the carmaker has finally unveiled the two-seater open cockpit sports car. It was first unveiled at Aston Martin’s Gaydon HQ in a conceptual specification inspired by the F/A-18 fighter jet.
Born from a new collaboration with Boeing, the V12 Speedster took 12 months of development by the brand’s bespoke customisation service ‘Q by Aston Martin’, this new supercar takes design inspiration from the 1969 24Hrs of LeMans winning DBR1, the Centenary CC100 Concept, and the 1953 DB3S.
The highlight of the V12 Speedster is its open cockpit policy, that leaves the supercar without a roof and windshield. The driver and passenger seats are split down the middle, further accentuating the aviation-inspired design.
21-inch wheels and carbon ceramic brakes equip the V12 Speedster, with interior upholstery fashioned out of a mix of leather, chrome, aluminum, and 3D-printed rubber. Thankfully, its design doesn’t hinder practicality, as it comes with a removable leather bag in place of a conventional glove box, and a couple of cargo areas in the twin humps behind the seats.
As the name suggests, the supercar is powered by a 5.2-litre V12 twin-turbo engine that delivers 700PS of power and 753Nm of torque. All that power is sent to the rear wheels via a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission to propel it from 0-100kmph in 3.6 seconds, and a top speed of 300kmph. Aston Martin claims the V12 Speedster to be a driver-focused car, and lives up to it. The car is fashioned with independent double wishbone front suspnsion, and multi-link rear suspension with coil springs and adaptive dampening offering Sport, Sport+ and Track modes.
The V12 Speedster retails at £765,000 and comes in Skyfall Silver, with deliveries set to begin around early 2021. It will also be a limited run vehicle, with only 88 units being produced. Stay up to date with news on the Speedster on Aston Martin’s website here.
